We live in a volatile world, and the use of vehicles to launch attacks on prominent government and commercial buildings and infrastructure is ever present. This makes implementation of high-impact-strength security solutions, such as crash-rated bollards, crucial. Crash-rated bollards prevent damage to assets such as power plants, fuel depots, chemical plants, federal and provincial/state government and military installations. They are also used to protect pedestrians at such sites, as well as in public areas where large crowds gather, such as sports stadiums or outdoor concert venues. Crash-rated bollards are a cost-effective and aesthetically appealing solution compared to other security measures, such as concrete barriers or walls.

Failure to implement security solutions such as crash-rated bollards invites terrorists to attempt ramming attacks or set off vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs)— acts of terror that threaten the stability of our society. The presence of anti-terrorism bollards can act as a visible deterrent to potential attackers; the bollards send a clear message that the facility is well-protected and that any attempt to breach its security will be met with resistance. Mention the actual physical security the bollards offer first, and then use the visual deterrent as an additional benefit.

ANNT Anti-Terrorism Bollards

ANNT’s Anti-Terrorism Bollards comprise an extensive range of crash-rated bollards for guarding against all vehicular threats. ANNT crash-rated bollards are rated from K4 – K12 (M30 – M50). The K rating refers to the ability of the bollard to resist the impact of a vehicle traveling at a specific speed, ensuring that the bed of the vehicle does not go beyond the bollard by more than 1m or 39.5”.

  • K4 bollards guard against a 15,000 lb (6800 kg) vehicle at 30 mph (48 kph). We don’t carry these anymore
  • K12 bollards guard against a 15,000 lb (6800 kg) at 50 mph (80 kph).

Crash-Rated vs. Crash-Certified

To provide the utmost security for government and commercial buildings and infrastructure, ANNT’s line of K4 – K12 Anti-Terrorism Bollards include K-certified bollards. A K-rated bollard and a K-certified bollard are both designed to provide protection against vehicle-borne threats, but there is an important difference between the two. A K-rated bollard has been tested and rated according to the US Department of State’s K-rating system, but a K-certified bollard has been tested and rated, and has also been certified by a third-party testing organization, such as the Underwriters Laboratories (UL). The certification process involves rigorous testing and verification of the bollard’s design, construction, and performance to ensure that it meets or exceeds the specified K-rating standards.

ANNT’s K-rated, certified bollards are made with high-quality 316-grade stainless steel or powder-coated steel and are offered in fixed, removable, semi-automatic and automatic electro-mechanical options. This diverse line offers industry-leading embedment depths and provides unsurpassed protection for government and commercial sites of all kinds.
